The Best Home Entertainment Gaming Steering Wheels
The ultimate Gaming Seats are here, with alternatives if you are short on space!
We’ve tested a variety of gaming seats and systems at our demo gaming centre, and we gave the fanatec range a thorough going through! A fantastic piece of German Engineering, with links into Porsche, make a really outstanding gaming seatsproduct!
Wheel Stand
The issue we have with Gaming Cockpits/Seats (eg. VisionRacer, BobEarl, Cockpit etc) is that they take up so much room, and in todays environment many families just dont have the room. The WheelStand literally stands out from the crowd here, at really good price points… The RennSport started life as a step up from the traditional keyboard/mouse, or joystick. In my experience, PC users were generally keyboard & mouse focussed, whilst console people used joysticks. The Wheel stand is something different – you can use whilst sitting on a couch, and have a fantastic experience. The wheelstand is close to the final evolution of the gaming console, only just behind the gaming seats from VisionRacer and Fanatec. The next stage in the evolution would be a cockpit/gaming seat – although we’ll cover that in another article.
The Fanatec product family are generally solid aluminum frame giving a solid product (as with all German Engineering!) and it does the job well. The product isn’t in the same league as VisionRacer or Cockpit, and the price reflects this. Its a solid piece of entertainment for playing games ‘in the comfort of your own chair’ as you don’t need a table to connect everything to – just your console (or PC), the couch and one of these! WheelStand investors usually have consoles, and this is probably due to the ease in setup and use.
One of the advantages of the RennSport Wheel Stand is that it doesn’t take up much room, and you can use your existing sofa to get something comfortable and enjoyable. The Pedals fit in snugly, and with the Logitech G25 your’ away!
If you are short on space for a gaming seat – get the WheelStand, its a worthy investment! Solid design and good aesthetics – the WheelStand is compact for storage, and solid too.
Fanatec CockPit
The CockPit has great adjustment range, it looks impressive, and you can make some adjustments to the monitor height. This is a great product if you have a young family, i.e. a range of different sizes, as the Cockopit can be adjusted for the individual. The sliding keyboard holder is a nice touch too. Its easy to see that these people made the steering wheel for the Porsche 911, and this design capability extends to the pedals too – nice touch!
The Cockpit Gaming Seat is the evolution to the WheelStand, and it looks fantastic – and is fantastic, solid design and delivers a great gaming environment. The advantage of the CockPit over the VisionRacer is that it supports 3 monitors (24”) out of the box – or one 37” display. Acoustically, it was a nice touch to see the inbuilt 5.1 design.1 surround sound too. You dont have a Gaming Seat unless you have a superb audio system, and this cockpit has all this.
Overall the VisionRacer and CockPit are well matched, ones from a German company and one is British – who will win!
